CIRCMATTWIN introduces a cross-sectoral framework to accelerate the transition of circular innovative advanced materials (IAMs) from design to market. Its unique value proposition lies in integrating AI-driven Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) material discovery with federated Digital Twin environments, Dynamic Digital Product Passports (DPPs), and a European Materials Commons, enabling a seamless, data-driven pipeline. The proposal addresses key barriers in Europe’s materials innovation ecosystem, including fragmented processes, slow scale-up of circular materials, limited SME access to infrastructures, and misalignment between performance, sustainability, and compliance. CIRCMATTWIN overcomes these by embedding circularity, recyclability and regulatory constraints from the design stage, while enabling secure cross-sector data sharing and optimisation. The proposal will deliver eight key results: (1) SSbD Material Discovery Engine; (2) Experimental and Digital Validation Dataset; (3) Federated Digital Twin Sandbox with Dynamic DPP Toolkit; (4) Validated Circular IAM Packages; (5) EMCCI Open-Access Digital Ecosystem; (6) Curated Circular Materials Commons Library; (7) Agentic AI Material Scientist; (8) Industrial Demonstrators for mobility, medical devices and urban furniture. Methodologically, CIRCMATTWIN combines multi-objective AI (e.g. graph neural networks), disorder-aware modelling, high-throughput experimentation and federated learning within interoperable Digital Twin ecosystems supported by FAIR data. Industrial pilots in mobility and medical devices, with replication in urban furniture, will demonstrate scalability and cross-sector applicability. CIRCMATTWIN will reduce time-to-market, improve resource efficiency and compliance, and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and strategic autonomy, supporting the twin green and digital transition.
